Study Links Lethal Cancer To Asbestos In Talcum Powder

Due to concerns about the baby powder contaminated with asbestos, a new study found a link between the contamination and the rare and fatal cancer.

After long-term use of powder and no other sources of exposure to asbestos, a group of 33 people developed mesothelioma. You can also head to talcumpowdercancerlawsuit to file a talcum powder cancer lawsuit.

"All of them have significant exposure to the powder," said the lead researcher. "It was not like they were sprinkled on once a month. It is the people who use it every day or several times a day for years. They all use the powder, and then over time they develop cancer," he said.

Johnson & Johnson baby powder delivery recall after US authorities discovered it was contaminated with asbestos – the first such recall in company history said a spokesman.

Johnson & Johnson did not respond to requests for comment on the study but said in its recall statement that it has difficult testing standards to certify the safety of its baby powder.

Asbestos is the major cause of mesothelioma, the cancer society says. It is quite rare in the United States, with approximately 3,000 new cases diagnosed each year. But it has a five-year relative survival rate averaged only 9%.

Researchers have alleged that the powder could be one possible source of exposure to asbestos. Both asbestos and talc are mined from the earth and at times, talc and asbestos deposits overlap.
